Vista Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired

The Vista Center provides services such as a low vision clinic with an optometrist specialist, daily living skills and mobility training. There are also braille classes available. In addition, they have a social worker who can come to your home to assess the services you need and provide training to become more independent within the home. The center also holds support groups, including a Youth Group for people ages 7–17.

BTBL has braille and audiobook titles available. Call to request an application for Talking Books. The Peninsula Center for the Blind also has applications.

Braille Transcription Project

Note: This project is on pause during the COVID-19 pandemic, but electronic versions of books may be available.

The Braille Transcription Project of Santa Clara County provides braille, free of charge, to blind students attending regular public schools in Santa Clara County and to blind professionals. The project offers braille textbooks outside the county on a cost-only basis.

California Deaf-Blind Services (CDBS)

CDBS offers advocacy and referral services for individuals through age 21 who are deaf-blind and for family members, care providers, and personnel from public and private schools and agencies, who serve individuals who are deaf-blind.
